Currently, there are thirteen officers assigned to the SWAT team. Twelve are Sheriff’s Department Deputies and one is a Kohler Police Department Officer. In 2005, the team added a SWAT Medic who has specialized training in Tactical Emergency Medical Situations.
This emergency response group is committed to making the Sheboygan County area a safer place to live and work.
The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department SWAT Team (Special Weapons and Tactics) consists of 13 officers. These officers receive specialized training and equipment to respond to high risk calls, such as barricaded armed subjects or drug search warrants. The team is deployed in an effort to reduce the possibility of injury to any officer or citizen involved in a specific incident.
In addition to the SWAT team, the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department also has several trained Hostage Negotiators. The negotiators have specialized training and equipment that allows them to talk to individuals who are barricaded in a residence or to talk to people who are in various high risk situations, such as attempting suicide or holding a hostage. The Sheriff’s Department also has an O.I.C. (Officer in charge) at high risk call outs. The Officer in charge oversees the activities of both the negotiators and SWAT team at the scene of a high-risk incident.
