Department Announces Retirements-

The Sheriff's Department is announcing the retirements of Inspector Gary TenHaken and Capt. John Scholke. Both will be ending their careers in law enforcement in June of 2006.
Capt. Scholke started with the department in August of 1976 as a patrol deputy. During his career he has held the positions of Deputy, Patrol Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant, and Captain of Jail Administration. He was also active with the department SWAT team, Boat and Snowmobile Patrols, and Field Training Coordination.
Inspector TenHaken, when asked about his retirement, stated he only wanted to ride off quietly into the sunset. Many of us assume this would be on horse back, similar to the way he patrolled the county when he was hired.
All kidding aside, we at the department wish both John and Gary the best of wishes in their retirement and congratulate them on successful and memorable careers. Both will be missed by those who work with them.
Department Announces Promotions-

On Monday, May 22, 2006, the Sheriff's Department officially announced several promotions. The promotions are in answer to the retirements of Ins. TenHaken and Capt. Scholke.

Department Adds New Boat to Fleet-

This past spring the Sheriff's Department was happy to add a new patrol boat to it's Recreation Patrol Fleet.
A new 2006, 16'5 foot, Smoker Craft boat with a 90 horsepower Mercury Outboard Motor, replaces the 1996. 16 foot Smoker Craft patrol boat, outfitted with a 50 hp Mercury motor. This new vessel is used mostly in patrol of inland water, however does add a new patrol boat to the Lake Michigan area as well.

New Faces at the Department-

Over the last year, the department has hired several new officers. Some are currently completing their field training, at which time they will be assigned to patrol. Other new hires have completed the training program and are currently assigned to different shifts in the department.

Deputy Ryan Kelley, currently assigned to third shift, comes from the Madison area, where he completed his associate's degree in Criminal Justice at Madison Area Technical College. Ryan lives in the City of Sheboygan, with his fiancee.

Deputy Dave Smart, comes to us from the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department and Big Bend Police Department. Having approximately four years of experience with these departments, Dave also completed a bachelor's degree in Sociology at Carroll College. Dave currently lives in the City of Sheboygan.

Deputy Alex Jaeger, currently assigned to first shift, graduated from Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Green Bay. Though his first job in law enforcement, Alex does have an extensive background in private security and loss prevention. He was also a Community Service Intern with Green Bay Police Department. Alex currently lives in the City of Sheboygan.

Deputy Philip Schaefer, formerly a Corrections Officer with the department, recently joined the Patrol Division. Philip is a graduate from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and lives in the City of Sheboygan.
Employee's Work on Lobby Display-

Currently, several employee's are undertaking a new project in the front lobby of the Sheriff's Department. The glass trophy case, located near the south entrance of the department lobby, has been emptied to allow some of our staff to display items collected that reflect our department and it's history.
Many were surprised at the amount of department historical items that were in storage. These things are being sorted through, cleaned, and set for display in the trophy case. Speaking with those involved, they hope the case will be filled by the middle of January of 2007.
Department is now taking applications for the positions of PATROL DEPUTY and FEMALE CORRECTIONS OFFICER

Co-Workers Assist Families of Deployed Officers-

Over the past months, while Deputy Wimmer and Sgt. Jorsch have been deployed to Iraq, several department employees have offered their assistance to the families. During the past six months, "work parties" have been held at both the Wimmer and Jorsch residence's. During the parties some of the chores that they assisted with where painting, yard work, moving furniture, and clearing brush and debris.
The department employee's continue to send both Dep. Wimmer and Sgt. Jorsch care packages as often as possible. In each package, we try to include something special, reminding them they are missed.
